Stand by

I cannot put my computer into stand by mode. It was
working fine until yesterday. Now, when I select stand
by, the computer briefly goes into that mode, then
immediately starts up again. I have not added any
software or hardware recently. The standby button does
display, but has no effect. Any help appreciated.

your mouse might be moving or there might be modem/network activity
