Stand By problem

When I put my pc in stand by it starts to look good for 5 seconds with the
blue screen "going in stand by" or what ever it says then boom, a hard shut
down like the power cord was pulled.

I upgraded the bios to no avail, so is it CPU? Software corruption, drivers?

I am using XP sp1 home.

It could be a BIOS issue or a driver issue.
