"Stand By " causes blue screen error

To add to my woes of having to re install WindowsXP a number of times
because Windows files were missing on install, (nothing wrong with disc or
memory as it has happened on two discs), my "Stand By" does not work.

Whenever I press "Stand By", from the keyboard or from the "Start" button, I
get that horrifying blue screen error, then the system reboots. The blur
screen message does not linger, but I did manage to see the word "kernel"
close to the top where it was trying to tell me of the error.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Bob

Change the settings so XP doesn't automatically restart on error. That way
when the blue screen comes up it should stay on the screen and you can post
and/or research the exact error message here.

Right click My Computer | Properties | Advanced Tab | Startup and Recovery |
Settings. Untic the box to automatically restart on error. Ok out.

Many times blue screen errors when entering standby is due to a conflict
with one of the installed drivers. Have you updated all the drivers?

To watch the Blue Screen :
1. Click Start > Run
2. Type "sysdem.cpl ,3" (Without quotes)
3. Click the 3rd "Settings" button (Under "Startup and Recovery")
4. Uncheck "Automatically Restart" (Under "System Failure")
5. Click Ok Twice.

---------OR--------------------------
You can view the Blue Screen message in Event Viewer :
1. Click Start > Run
2. Type eventvwr
3. Click OK
4. In "System", Look for warnings and errors.
