Staerting Vista

Vista normall starts without a problem.

Today I switched on the computer and got a message that told me that
the system failed to start and gave me two options

1.start windows repair

2. start normally.

I started windows repair, it started scanning and looking for
problems, then offered to find a new start point, or a cancellation.

The programme got stuck, no buttons would respond, and I had to turn
off the power.

On restarting, I again got the message about failing to start and the
options of repair or normal starting.

This time I chose to start normally. The pc booted into windows and
started normally as if nothing was wrong

Can anyone explain this. Is the pc alright - seems to be working
perfectly?

You'll get this message if the computer gets shutdown in a non-standard way
eg pulling the plug or pressing the power button for 5 seconds etc - and
it's usually pretty benign.

Windows will give you these start up options when it has suffered certain
kinds of irregular start ups or shut downs. This is normal behaviour for the
OS.

You may be able to extract information about what caused the failures in the
Event Viewer, it may be a bit cryptic though (run as administrator):

Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer

As long as your computer seems to run fine, I don't think you should worry
to much. In case of further problems, you must try to identify what changed
right before you experienced the first crash. Post back to this group if you
like. You can do a System Restore to a point prior to the problems should
they happen again, but to avoid the problems recurring, it is necessary to
know what caused them.

Probably for the same reason as it crashed in the first place. It is hard
for me to tell when you can not find any likely cause yourself either. It
could be a faulty driver, some corrupted system or app file, or something
completely else.

I'll get back if there any developments.
