Stacked bar chart with totals - Excel 2003

Hi everyone,

I have a stacked bar chart with 8 items associated with the stacked
chart. What I want is, is there a way to get the total amount for each
stack and display it at the top of each bar? Like a regular bar chart
does.

This would be awesome if someone has some sample code or a add-in!

Thanks!

From another thread -
Jon wrote
"Make another series that represents the totals you want to display. Add this
data to the chart as a new series. At first this series will appear as a new
column stacked on the rest. Select it, go to Chart menu > Chart Type, and
select a Line chart style to change this series. Double click this series,
and on the Data Labels tab, choose the Values option, then on the Patterns
tab, select no lines and no markers. Click OK, then double click on the
labels, and on the Alignment tab, choose Above from the position dropdown.

Luke, I've found your explanation very useful, as I needed the same thing as
the original poster. One problem I have run into is after I save the file,
the data labels for the totals do not hold the format of "above". any
thoughts as tho why this may happen? Other format changes will hold, so I
don't get it.
