Squeezing more blood from a stone: XP SP3

Sorry, this is not the appropriate newsgroup for
Windows XP SP3 beta questions or comments.

I did a before and after test with SP2 fresh install and then an
update to SP3 (build 3244) and I noticed FPU and INT number went up
around 3.5% in Sandra XIIc. Disk I/O was the same sadly. Seems there's
fight in the old dog yet. Someone else did a test too:

Well, why not be helpful and tell him which NG *is*
appropriate?!

Sorry, this is not the appropriate newsgroup for
Windows XP SP3 beta questions or comments.

But it is an open usenet group involving WinXP.

As a user of a registered copy of the Windows XP operating system,
I was glad to read about the upcoming service pack.

The appropriate newsgroup for Beta issues involving XP and all Beta releases for it is the private newsgroup that is supplied to a bonafied Beta tester concerning the said Beta. This private newsgroup is given to Beta testers that are officially picked\selected for said Beta. Not open to the public

the point is, Chicago Wolf or whatever he calls himself is NOT an official
MS Beta tester and has acquired his copy of SP3 RC1 from a non-MS source, so
take everything he says about it with a HUGE pinch of salt....

It wouldn't be too difficult to get into a semantic argument regarding
this comment but I won't. I hope that you would not be insinuating
that the *.windowsxp.beta.* groups were for this comment, were you? In
case you were, those groups are for pre-RTM XP gold code.
Additionally, no one reads them since XP has gone gold years ago. I
cannot imagine which group other than this .general group being
on-topic. Other posters have asked about SP3 and others have responded
to them. Sorry but your response is inappropriate.

Most folks should have the common sense, I would hope, to know that a
release candidate is still not gold code and could change by the final
product. Release candidates are at least a *hint* at what could be
expected from final code. Since it has made its way into the wild, I
was curious to see what it was all about. It was simply an expression
of my subjective experience with a commonly available test suite. No
more, no less.

If he's a legit beta tester, he has access to the appropriate newsgroup. If
he's not, he deserves what he gets for downloading SP3 beta from a non-MS
source.

I understand. However, since it's in the wild now, it's fair game.

You don't get the point, do you? there are PRIVATE groups to which OFFICIAL
beta testers can subscribe....

That's good advice.

Chicago Wolf gave a link which was interesting to read, at least for
me.

Sometimes you get a more neutral answer from people not so involved in a
process.
What are you guys afraid of? Chicago Wolf made one little post.

I see sig files on here bigger than that.

Fine, I'll refrain. My apologies.

Wally,

I appreciate you being interested in the topic of this post and even
coming to my defense a bit. Others don't feel this is appropriate
venue to share this information so I will refrain in the future.
Thanks anyway.
