The following message pops up when starting the computer:

"SQL server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with (
unknown package id ) Please uninstall then rerun setup to correct this
problem."

This computer has Windows XP Home Edition (fully updated) and MS Office
Small Business 2003. As far as I know, no SQL server has been installed on
this computer.

I would appreciate any ideas on what may be happening.

Thanks, Robert

I too have just encountered this same issue and require some solutions. So
far have not been able to find a solution for a fix. Running XP Pro and 2003
Office w/Business Contact Manager..............which is no longer running for
some reason. Could someone shed some light on how to fix the SQL issue?
Thank you.

MS 2003 SBE installs MSDE by default - it's used by the Business
Contacts Manager - uninstall anything that says SQL and also Business
Contact Manager.

The Microsoft SQL server is also known as MSDE. This data base may be
freely distributed with a software package that requires a database. Check
you ADD/Remove Software.

How do unistall these?? I don't know much about computers so I need some
details on how I need to do things. Thanks

Open Control Panel, Add-Remove-Programs, select REMOVE for MS Office
Business Contact Manager. When look for something with SQL in it's name
and remove it too.

Probably not going to like this tidbit of info;
Nuke & Pave! Entire account was corrupt on XP Pro and for whatever the
reason, (and I had MS Tech Support) going through my system via Net Meeting
Live,the entire system got corrupted.
Best possible fix without having *any* longterm issues, backup what you
need/want, and do a complete "clean install" from XP up, taking care to go
through all the updates before proceeding to any other installs.
Everything works most excellent now, for some reason the account gets
corrupted in XP and just creating a new account will not help the fix, I
know, i've been through this exercise along with MS Tech Support. Key words,
clean install!
Sorry, but its the truth.
Good luck.
