SpywareGaurd & SG9

D

db ´¯`·.. >

problem:

while casually browsing the net
and clicked on a search link to
a site that contained a description
pertaining to my question,

my browser was taken to the new
spyware guard site now called sg9,
where the site appears to be your
own computer explorer.

then there is a fake scan performed,
producing a fake alert citing dozens
of infections found, then the site
induces people to download their program.

its also a contemptuous because
people are led to believe that they
cannot close the alert window and
must install their program onto the
disk.

solution:

people should avoid such sites or
understand a couple of ways to
protect themselves.

---------

step 1:

simply close their browser
instead of clicking save, run or cancel.

--------

step 2:

input the urls below into
your browser's restricted sites
listing:

http://sg9scanner.com/sg1/1/10128
http://sg9scanner.com

to enter both urls above:

open the browser>tools>options>
security tab>restricted>add

then enter the two links
above and click the add
button to complete.

--------

step 3:

users should modify their hosts
file by adding the following entries
to the current listing:

127.0.0.1 www.sg9scanner.com
127.0.0.1 sg9scanner.com

to enter both url's above:

open your computer browser
and drill to down to>

\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

next, right click on the "hosts.file"
and open with notepad,

then add the two lines above to the
beginning or the end of the current
listing.

then save your new list as host.txt

next, go back into the folder above
and delete the original "hosts.file"

next, right click on your "hosts.txt"
file and rename it by deleting the
..txt extension.

the above will simply replace the
old hosts file with your new one

step 4:

afterwards reboot and enjoy a
slightly safer browsing experience.

Or use Ubuntu and not worry about it or have to go through *any* of the
above procedures except closing the browser.

Using Windows XP Prof and don't have to go through any of that either.

Sure, my computer is setup following MS security reccomendations, don't
use IE as a browser, don't click on things that look suspicious, read
about the latest threats, etc....

Staying secure means reading about the latest threats BEFORE you go
playing around on the net.

In 30 years not a single computer I own has been compromised, and I run
a LOT of Windows computers.

And that's why you will always been seen as a troll. You don't
understand that BASICS of securing a Windows box and you assume that
because YOU can't do it that it must not be true. Securing a Win box
against threats is very simple, all it takes is following recommendation
from MS and using something other than IE and then following the latest
news on threats.

If you never try and understand you are doomed to failure.

Ctrl+Alt+Del, click on Applications tab, place cursor on browser and End
Task. Having said that I probably might right click on the Internet
Explorer item on the Task Bar and select Close.

Liar, a Windows box, by definition, is insecure on the Internet. No anti
virus has all the definitions and can only react to viruses it knows,
not new ones. No anti malware has all the definitions for all the root
kits, trojans, spyware, etc. and can only react to malware it knows.
Sooooooooooooo, you saying that all your Windows boxes are secure is a
LIE and proves your limited understanding of security and your trolling

Leythos is a known liar. I just pointed it out. I don't, like you, post
lies about operating systems. Or have you forgotten your post about
Ubuntu in Vista General?

Do you see anything that says the poster's computer is connected to the
internet? You have set up a false premise - a 'straw man' argument - in
order to promulgate silliness.

While it is true that many Windows users are arrogant, many Linux users are
actually insane.

Challenge.

You said it. Vista General.

NOT UBUNTU (UdungTu) GENERAL.

And, I didn't lie about your favorite system. I stated the facts about the
exorbitant amount of updates for a new operating system that was less that a
month old.

Again, this shows your complete lack of understanding of Windows and
security. I have not said that "windows boxes are secure", I've said
that my computers running windows, by following standard security
practices, being aware of threats, have not been compromised in the 30+
years I've been working with computers (and yes, I know that Windows
wasn't available 30 years ago).

So, the fact remains that a Windows XP box CAN be properly secured, that
the network can easily be secured and protect the users/computer, and
that people CAN use Windows without being compromised.

Your lack of ability, comprehension, skill, and your complete bias and
lie history proves that you don't know what you are talking about.

Leythos

Leythos is a known liar.

Please quote where I've lied anywhere - take your time, since you won't
be able to show anything.

Windows PC's can easily be secured, with a basic set of methods and a
little common sense.
