I have noticed that my computer has been slowing down, like when I am on the
Internet trying to load games, it seems to take forever. Is this caused by
spyware and if it is, what is the best spyware removal program that can be
downloaded?

Only download software you can validate as uncompromised - in the case
of non-vendor site you have no guarantee that the files are unmodified
or uncompromised. Anyone providing a link to a non-vendors site with a
direct download should not be trusted, the vendors sites are the safest
place to download their application.

Always remember - only download files from Trusted Sites.

These sites are for downloading Anti-Spyware tools, in order that I
would use them myself:

AdAwareSE can be found here:
http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/

SpyBot Search and Destroy can be found here:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

Ewido Security Suite Trial can be found here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

CrapCleaner can be found at the vendors site here:
http://www.ccleaner.com/ccdownload.asp

CleanUp can be found at the vendors site here:
http://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/download.html
or from another reputable source:
http://www.tucows.com/get/405276_152071

The following are two links to Antivirus software in order that I would
use them:

You can also download Symantec Trial version of their Antivirus software
from here:
http://www.symantec.com/downloads/

Download AVG Personal Free edition from here:
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/

These are the actual vendors sites, not some unknown or authorized no-
name site. They also don't artificially increase the hits for sites that
get paid for the amount of traffic they can generate like one poster has
admitted to in this group.

download.com is one of mirrors your link directs you to.

Yes, but if you don't go to the vendors site you don't learn about the
vendors product, don't get a change to purchase it or make a donation
for using their FREE product, and you don't know that downloads.com is
still a valid vendor.

So, if you were like the lamer pcbutts1 (now MEM), you could host files
on any website, not give credit to the vendor, and actually call any exe
file anything you want without the end-user knowing for sure.

It's all about having a chance to get a known good file. What are you
going to do when lavasoft stops using download.com as a mirror or when
download.com doesn't have the latest version and one of the other
MIRRORS provided by lavasoft does?

In principle I agree with you. Download.com has it's own problems. It is
possible to download ad supported software there (spyware). If you search
for Ad-Aware you also get paid for links to download things like Adware and
Ad-Away that show up at the top of the results page. It is however an
official mirror (unlike butt's site) and they also have Spybot and other
good programs available. Whenever I recommend download .com to someone I
caution them to be careful to make sure they download the right program.

I understand, but what I think, ethically speaking, we should point the
users to the vendors download page at the least. This provides the
vendor with the ability to show the user what they are getting, that it
has value, etc.... It also provides the user with a means to purchase
the software or to make a donation to the vendors site.

Kerry,
I very much agree with Leythos, it is still best to send them to the vendors
web site. They will have access to all the approved mirror sites from the
vendor page.
PS, Bet you never see BUTTS site listed as approved on any vendor's web
site. 8-)

It already is and has been for almost 2 years now. You just don't know which
one. I will never tell you and that just drive you crazy doesn't it? I
already know it does Leythos and David.

Ha Ha Ha - you? drive me crazy? Not a chance moron. I just find it funny
that you're posting via PacBell now and not Prodigy that you were using,
and I find it funny that you're not using your pcbutts.com site for
links (like anyone could miss the IP as the same).....

Seems like you have not learned your lesson about hosting files
improperly.

said about my IP address, did you forget that already? If I stopped hosting
those files then why did I just post a link to them. You are obsessed with
me. Stop Stalking me. Hey this link still works still up still registered to
pcbutts1 same site so what the hell are you talking about.

You are posting through PacBell, not Microsoft. You are accessing the
newsgroups from msnews.microsoft.com. You used to post through yahoo and use
their newsgroup server for access. What happened to your sbc yahoo access?
Got canceled?
The only one around here spoofing and lying to stay visible is you.
It still stands, I bet you never see a vendor use pcBUTTS as mirror site.
If you did tell them what you do, they would not allow it.
Plus, your web hosting has changed and your new one may need to know about
your content.
