Spyware Scan Notice

I have noticed within the last two or three days that the MS Spyware Scan
Notice no longer displays after the 2AM scheduled scan. I have tried a few
fixes based on similar problems noted by other users and reported on this
board. So far nothing has fixed the problem and I have tried the following:
1. Repair the MS AS Beta1.
2. Remove program and re-install.
3. Change settings (as noted in earlier posts).
4. Restore PC's to an earlier date before I noticed the problem.

I was preparing to make one additional try at a fix by removing the MS AS
Beta 1 via the add/remove function and then delete any remaining folders and
sub-folders. When this is complete I would do a re-install of the MS AS Beta1
product.

Any additional thoughts would be appreciated. I have five PC's, all with XP
op sys and SP-2 with no problems to speak. As noted the lack of the spyware
scan notice when the scan is completed has been viewed on 2 PC's, the others
are fine.

I have also asked the lack of spyware scan notice questions to others that
use the MS AS Beta 1 software and it seems that 1/3 of the users have the
same problem (my poll was six other users). Perhaps this is a more wide
spread but minor condition that occurs. The scans are reported to the log but
the summary notice is missing.

Hi dxer,

My additional thoughts would be:

1.-Whatever you do, (installing and updateting or unistalling) always as a
adinistrator.

2.-Also clean your internet files, always for any operation as above.

Now, try this:

3.- Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. Click Microsoft AntiSpyware and
click Change. Click Next, and then click Updªte.

Good luck

I hope that (this) post is helpful, let us know how it works ºut.

PS You can use Ccleaner

http://www.ccleaner.com

Or

Manual:
You can clear prefetch files by going to Start menu and Run and typing
prefetch, and then click OK.
Prefetch files are there to help programs load/open quicker but they will be
replaced in prefetch when they are used agªin.
This folder may accumulate useless junk, especially if you change your
configuration a lºt. There's no harm in emptying it. Simply delete all the
files in that folder; Windows will rebuild it as needed
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Gaining-Speed-Empty-Prefetch-XP.html

Open a Internet window and go to Internet Options, Delete Cookies and Temp
Files and included all offline content then also go to start and run and type
%temp% and clear that fºlder.

Enable Hidden Files and folder's.

To enable hidden files and folders Go to Start then search > goto tools on
the top bar> then click Folder Options-> then goto the View tab.
Make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' is enabled.
Display the contents of system folders' is checked & 'Hide extentions for
known file types ' is not checked then press ªpply.
You can set this back later by opening the same page and pressing 'restore
defaults' then pressing ªpply,

HOW TO Enable Hidden Files:

Empty your IE cache and your other temporary file folders, eg: c:\temp,
c:\windows\temp or C:\Documents and Settings\<name>\Local Settings\Temp (the
path to your temp folder will change depending on your name) - sometimes
programmes can be hidden in there - watch out for mysterious *.exe files or
*.dll files in those fºlders.
and c:\Documents and Settings\username\local settings\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5 and delete all the files in those directories and
subdirectºries).

Engel,

Thanks for the reply and your helpful suggestions. I tried this on one PC
and yes it did work. I will now try on the second PC and trust it will work
there as well.

Your suggestion on CCleaner is a good one and I use this tool often at work
as "junk" tends to accumulate too quickly. Thanks again!
