Spyware posing as Microsoft Update

I just opened up my Internet Explorer, which would
normally prompt my homepage - in this case Sympatico.
Instead it went to a Microsoft Update page. When I pressed
the homepage icon, I got a pop up message that said I had
Spyware on my computer, followed by another homepage
popping up that was a search engine. This same search
engine becomes my homepage from time to time, no matter
how many times I run Ad-aware and Spybot. Also, I have AVG
anti-virus and with updates, apparently there are no
viruses on my computer.

Has anyone ever heard of Spyware and/or a virus posing at
a Microsoft Update page?

You can e-mail me at (e-mail address removed)

especially if anyone has any idea how to get rid of this
homepage changing bug.

I had a similiar problem a week ago. I tried to change the homepage back
to google , the next time I started IE. The microsoft update page was back
as the default. The latest issue of Spybot fixed the problem. I think
you should download the latest copy of Spybot Search and destroy. 1.3 rc3.
and leave it running at your background. The new spybot will notify you if
there is any attempted changes of your registry, homepage and etc, It will
ask you to allow it or deny it. Click on deny and the problem should be
fixed.
