Spybot S&D has really slowed down on my machine of late. Seems to have
grown more slow with each update. Now, when it reaches the place where
it's scanning for "Zwax" nasties it really chuffs to a crawl. The
whole search takes about 35-45 minutes on a 2.6 gig P4, 80 gig HD, 512
Meg RAM. machine.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I maintain about 20 comp's, same result.
Here are others I use as well.

My SpyCatcher tips.
What it does, after the search, it offers choices of what to do with
files found, which can be a bit daunting.
All these choices, like > Ask, can ( after research or your own
knowledge of what you have installed ) be changed, if they are false
positives. In the Status window, the Protection ( in the middle of the
page ) section, click on the files found.
It also finds uninstall exe's, which I change to > Allow.

No suggestions for you, other than be happy it's taking as short as it
is. It went forever on a 500 mhz Celeron with 64 megs ram here. Never
had that problem before. I wonder what's changed?

I just updated and ran mine. It took just under 5 minutes to scan my
1/2 full 60 Gbyte drive. This is on a P4 w/1Gb ram, running windows 2k sp4.

As so often happens, the update would crap out w/"bad checksum" on the
first couple of servers but worked like a champ on the 3rd attempt.

Wrt to suggestions, I *strongly* suggest you hop on over to Spybot's
forums. They're moderate-very active and there are a number of threads
related to "slow." <ahem>. The one I picked at random talked about
very slow scans on machines w/kapersky av.

Thanks to everyone!

I don't know that I have the answer to my problem yet, but I think
you've pointed me in the right direction to find it.

Zwak is one of the last nasties Spybot tests. After that I beleieve
it goes and scan other partitions. Check to see that you have not
specified large folders in other partitions for Spybot to scan (for
example in Spybot's Settings > Directories).
