I am using Windows XP and I use Outlook as my e-mail program.

I have set the dictionary to English (South Africa) but whenever I type a
word which the dictionary doesn't recognise it defaults to English (US) but
also doesn't allow the word to be added to the custom dictionary unless you
then change the selection back to SA which is time consuming and frustrating.
Why does the custom dictionary not work across all selected language options?
Any help would be appreciated.

Because the dictionary is a general office app, you might get better help on
this in one of the office or word groups.

But... to start, what version of Outlook? Is it set for all languages? See
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word/HP051895581033.aspx - the Edit a
custom dic section tells how to set it for all languages.

Hi, Leon. I had the same problem, but with Office 2007. The cure here is to
go to the "proofing" tab, and click on the "Spelling" down arrow. In the box
that opens, select "Set Language". Once you have selected the appropriate
language, you MUST click on the "DEFAULT" box. If you fail to do this, it
will revert to "English(US)" every time. For me, this has been a permanent
cure. I hope you can find an equivalent in XP.
