Spellchecking for non-administrators

P

Peter Brown

My computer runs Xppro with three users. I have
administrator rights, the other two users do not.

All users use Winword, and originally all could use
spellcheck without problems. Then I ran the service pack
SP1a.

Now spellchecker still works for me but not for the other
two users. On their Tools>Options the spelling & grammar
tab is greyed out.

I have checked the most frequent causes of no
spellchecking, like a missing backslash in the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Microsoft\shared tools
registry entry and a missing Csapi3t.dll.

I have also disabled fast switching, and tried deleting
one user and setting up a new user. But the new users had
no spellcheck availability either.

It's almost certainly a registry problem. Can anyone
suggest a fix please?

This is an early problem that sometimes takes place when loading a new
program,
Have your users go to the Windows Command Prompt,
Change Directories to Windows\system32,
Scroll down and look for mapi32.dll,
If it has a size of over 640 kb, that is the problem,
Look for mapistub.dll, which is the backup and check the difference in size.
Scroll on down until you get down to the prompt,
Type EDIT MAPISTUB.DLL,
ignore what is on the screen,
Click File at the top and click Save As,
type: MAPI32.DLL and save.

Work your way back to the desktop and Reboot.
