Users receive this message spell checking in OWA:
“The spelling in this item can't be checked. Try again later.â€

OS = Windows 2000 Pro, Windows XP Pro2
Fully service packed and patched
Browser = IE V6.0.2800.x

We’ve confirmed all recommended permissions and settings as described in
postings on this site and Microsoft’s regarding this problem and still we’re
experiencing this problem.

Here’s a peculiarity to our specific problem notable in the difference in
steps 2, 5 &6 of both connection methods described herein.

CONNECTION METHOD 1:
1) Open IE-V6.0.2800.x
2) Enter URL to access message system -
“mail.exchangewebserver.com/servernameâ€
3) Provide username (test.user), password (password) and authenticating
domain (domain.com) and click “okâ€.
4) Open new message and purposely misspell and check
5) Receive error - “The spelling in this item can't be checked. Try again
later.â€
6) When I mouse over the folders the status bar shows the path: i.e. –

mail.exchangewebserver.com/servername/test.user/#

CONNECTION METHOD 2:
1) Open IE-V6.0.2800.x
2) Enter URL to access message system –
“mail.exchangewebserver.com/servername/[email protected]â€
3) Provide username (test.user), password (password) leaving the
authenticating domain field blank, click “okâ€.
4) Open new message and purposely misspell and check
5) The spell checker works perfectly
6) When I mouse over the folders the status bar shows the path: i.e. –

mail.exchangewebserver.com/servername/[email protected]/#

In the IIS manager on the Exchange server there’s a virtual folder named
“exchange†that has no sub-folders or permission properties only object
properties. The Access and Authentication methods selected for this are:
Integrated with Windows authentication
Basic authentication (with the domain specified)

The virtual folder exchweb is set to use IUSR_EXCHANGE only.

I changed the authentication method for the virtual folder exchweb to
Integrated with Windows authentication and Basic authentication (with the
domain specified) the spell checker began working perfectly.
