You need to buy an application, Windows is an operating
system. To get a word processor you can buy OFFICE, or just
WORD. The least expensive way to get WORD is to buy the
WORKS SUITE.

If you don't want to spend any money, you can download [hope
you have broadband] the free OPEN OFFICE from
www.openoffice.org

No, we don't want or need your email address, hope the
spammers/virus writers don't get it and flood you with
trouble.

Greetings --

Outlook Express, as you've discovered, has no spell-checking
capabilities of its own. Instead, it relies upon the presence of
other Microsoft applications, such as the Office Suite, Word, or the
Works _Suite_ (which includes Word, not the regular Works). There are
also some 3rd-party shareware/freeware solutions available at any of
the many shareware sites on the Internet

Spell Magic seems well thought-of, though I haven't tried it myself:

No version of Windows comes with a spell checker. Notepad and
Wordpad are both extremely basic programs, simple text editors
rather than real word processors.

To get a spell checker, you need a full-featured word processing
application. Consider acquiring Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, etc.
