Bought a new laptop An HP business machine) with XP Pro. Imagine my surprise
to find the spell check is in French, and the pull-down language menu shows
only French as an option. How do I get this replaced with English?

Did your laptop come with Office 2007? By default, Outlook
Express doesn't come with a built-in spell checker. It has
always used the one included with Microsoft Office.
Unfortunately, the spell checker included with Office 2007 is
not compatible with OE.

You no longer have spell checking capabilities in some
languages in Outlook Express 6.0 after you install the 2007
Microsoft Office system

I was able to get around this issue because I had a copy of
Office 2003. Installing the Proofing Tools from the Office 2003
installation CD will restore the spell checker in OE.

If you haven't done so already, you might want to post your
question to one of the Office newsgroups or the Outlook Express
newsgroup.

Good luck

OE 6 does not come with it's own spell check. You need Word or an MS Office
program. The spell checker in Works 4 through 6 will work with OE, but not
other editions. If you do not have such a program, you can download a free
spell check at one of these sites.

Vampirefo Spell Check:

TinySpell:
http://www.tinyspell.m6.net/ (Checks the spelling as you type).

I have used the Vampirefo spell check for years myself.
