spell check mysteriuosly turns itself off

Our admin assistant provided teachers with a report format, but many of the
teachers and the AA herself found that somehow the spell checker had been
turned off in the resulting documents. In some cases, the feature was able to
be turned back on, buit in others, not. Copying and pasting to a new document
had the same problem. Sometimes it became the default setting for Word on
individual machines. Is this a virus, perhaps? OR......? Any help appreciated!
