Speed of selecting is too fast

Speed of selecting is too fast and jumps pages before I
can select only a few sentences. How do I slow down
clicking and highlighting????
 
Click at one end of the desired selection. Drag the elevator on the scroll
bar to bring the other end in view and Shift+click there.

You can also triple-click to select a paragraph, hold the SHIFT key and
single-click another paragraph to select it as well. The "click",
"Shift-Click" method that Suzanne mentioned is the one most of us use.
