Speed issues when navigating to locations, all office sw

We have two machines (xp with office 2003), using all office sw (and only
office), they can sometimes be very slow when trying to navigate to a
location. eg, save as, insert, open. This does not happen while working on
the document itself, or when printing. This can easily take over a couple of
minutes, and at each stage, eg. open C Drive, open General, open Report etc.
This can be for local or network locations. Initial thoughts are path setting
issues to the locations.

Any help greatly appreciated (wasting a lot of time here, not got much hair
left...).

Sorry should clarify. This is two machines, while another dozen work with no
problems. Thanks

If you have Norton Anti Virus, turn off the office plug in and see if that
helps.

Thanks Brian, but that didn't solve the issue.

Both are laptops have NIS on them, which we normally have to disable on our
network (which has Symantec Multi Tier) otherwise we have issues when trying
to print things etc.

I have had issues with my one at home, I'm not sure if I was connected to
the internet at the time. I will try later with it off-line.
