Special Characters

How can I add special characters to an Excel cell while
typing text(i.e. µ or ½)? In Word I just press the 'ALT'
key and the corresponding numbers on the keypad.

In Excel you can do the same

Alt-0189 = ½
See Insert>Symbol in the menubar for the numbers

If you have XL2000 or earlier, you won't have Insert >> Symbol.
