speakers-play somethings, not others

[need help]

ok, my problem is that I hear music from my speakers when
I play a cd on the cd-rom, but not from anything else.
When i minimize, maximize, start-up, whenever, I am
supposed to hear something, and I do not. I have assigned
each of these functions a noise, but when I test it by
pressing the play button, there is no sound. any
suggetions????

Have you tested these noises when you assigned them??
check the speaker icon in the task bar maximize it
and see if these are muted..
