Speaker on ToolBar-XP Home edition

I get a laugh each time I shut my computer down.
(SAVING YOUR SETTINGS
everytime I reboot the computer the speaker is gone and
all the programs that I have check 'never show' are
shown. HELP!! this is driving me Crazy

Did explorer crash before you shut down? If you set the items to always
show/hide etc, but then Explorer.exe crashes, the settings are wiped out.
You have to make sure to successfully save the settings after you set them.
The easiest way to do that is to set the always show/hide settings (make
sure to click ok on the "Customize Notifications" dialog and either Apply or
Ok on the properties dialog. Then immediately log off (you don't have to
restart, just log off the current user). If you have problems with explorer
crashing a lot, make sure to log off right after you set them to avoid it
crashing and losing the settings. After you've logged off, you can then log
back and they should be there (or not there as the case may be).

As for the speaker icon, it's pretty much the same thing. Open the
sounds and audio devices control panel object, select show icon in tray,
click ok, then log off. It should save it then.

When the icon is visible via the Notification Area, run this edit:

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
