SPDIF Output

Motherboard - GA-8INXP (using the on board audio from the motherboard)
Video Card - 8500 AIW

I have the SPDIF connected to my reciever and am trying to get the AIW (TV)
to play through the receiver (over the SPDIF).

Other audio will work (eg - media player plays mp3 files etc etc through the
SPDIF).
The AIW card is connected to the motherboard AUX in. Does it not process
from the AIW card to the SPDIF?

I can't answer your question (but I am curious as to how flexible the
spdif port is).

I've got a 8KNXP with Radeon AIW 7500 and Win-2k (and MMC 8.?) and
have noticed that the volume control on the TV control panel does
nothing. Is this normal?

This is when you are running the TV through the SPDIF output? If so, I dunno
why.

That being said, I know that when I am using Power DVD to play through the
SPDIF output, it doesn't to squat for the volume, have to adjust via the
receiver.

You probably have the AC97 2.3 spec problem. I ran across mention of
it in my SPDIF researches, specifically in connection with the AIW,
but I didn't bookmark it. There's a long thread about it on one of the
tech forums.

It's a quirk - apparently the AC97 2.3 spec says to disable the analog
mic and aux inputs when the SPDIF output is enabled, which
inadvertently disables the AIW sound. There's a couple of workarounds,
including some sort of setting you can make in ATI's software, or
using the SPDIF output on the ATI card. Future driver updates may fix
it.

Eeeghads! From a quick search, seems I've got some reading to do. :)

Thanks for the tip!
