I have created sevral rules that moves all spam to the
deleted items folder. My problem is that while the rules
correctly move the spam to the deleted items folder I
still get a notificatiion that I have recieved new
email. How do I set up a rule so that I only get
notified when I have a legimate email and not an email
that has been moved to my deleted items folder?

Spam is also email, therefore you have received new mail, whether you want
to read it or not

I understand that spam is also email. But you should be
able to set up Outlook to display or not to display a new
email notification based on some rule.

Nope. Not without jumping through a great number of hoops.

Post your Outlook version.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to the
(insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal account
will be deleted without reading.
