spaces before punctuation

I type a word followed by a colon or a question mark.
Word automatically inserts s space between the word and
the punctuation mark. How can I stop this happening?

Is it happening just with : and ? ? If so, then perhaps there's an errant
autocorrect entry. Choose Tools - AutoCorrect Options - AutoCorrect tab. In
the Replace list, look for ":" and "?" (without the quotes, of course). If
they're there, then delete them.

The other possibility is that you have French set as the input language. On
your task bar, next to the system tray... is the language bar showing? It
might say EN for English, FR for French, ES for Spanish, etc. If it's there,
then click it and set the language to English (assuming that's the language
you want).
