Space between link bar and text

Hi, On some of my pages the space between the link bar on the left side of the page and the beginning of the text is almost nil, while on other pages it's about 15 pixels away- which is where I want it. Why are some pages at zero space and more importantly how do I change the space??? I found how to set the left hand and top margins but that doesn't help me on the problem at hand

How did you insert them into your pages?

If using shared borders, then there is a default 24 pixel space between the
shared border and anything to the right of it (or left, if a right shared
border).
