SP4 Has Bugs Obviously

Sounds like you don't have all your critical updates
installed yet. Specifically, the RPC fix. In add&remove
programs, do you see "Windows 2000 Hotfix - KB823980"?

Oh yes, all hotfixes were already installed. Note that
many users are having the same problems, obviously not
very well tested prior to sending out.

Actually, in my case the problem worsened after installing
those hot fixes. services.exe is occupying major CPU, and
everything else is crawling.

It was fine until I went for SP4.

I have that specific hot fix that mark talks about.

C.Y.A. You can roll back to SP3 if checked the option to back up during the
install.
If you have problems after the install, uninstall SP4 and go on your merry
way.
That is your best defense against any MS service pack.

Isn't it sad that Microsoft puts the monkey on the users
back, by obviously not testing thoroughly and so they give
you the option to try it and if it don't work, go back.
Well, i didn't opt for that, my fault but I'll never trust
them again, and this is the last update this system gets,
the hackers can't mess up a computer as bad as the update
does, I'll take my chances with just a good anti-virus and
firewall, good grief.

Given that Microsoft doesn't know what software users have placed on
their PC's, I would say that providing a method of backing out the patch
is about as good as it's going to get. BTW many of the problems seem to
be related to 3rd party drivers, but that's just a personal observation.
