SP4 causes problems with VPN

I have windows 2000 on a PIII based SGI visual workstation 320. I'd been
using VPN over the internet to connect to my work computer. This worked fine
with SP3. After installing SP4, the VPN still generally connects. However,
it starts hogging CPU cycles making everything very unresponsive. This
happens most of the time when I make the VPN connection; sometimes, though
it works fine. The task manager shows the process "System" consuming all the
cpu cycles. The connection seems to be operational otherwise.

I didnt even back up the SP3 state when installing SP4 making it impossible
to uninstall SP4. Is there any way to go back? Will a repair with the
windows cd set things back (and I can install SP3 again)? Is there any other
solution? Are there third party VPN tools which I can use instead of the one
in Windows 2000?

Thanks

Since you did not backup state when going to SP4, you cannot revert back to
sp3
