I got a message at login that the was now available so I downloaded,
forgetting that I already had the automatic update scheduler. Now when I
boot up, I get 2 message boxes. The first one reads:
The procedure entry point apsSearchInterface could not be located in the
dynamic link library wlanapi.dll.
The second one reads the same, substituting apsGetReady for
apsSearchInterface. I don't know what this means, nor how to fix it. I
would greatly appreciate any help offered. Thank you.

That is a ridiculous request. You update to stay current and to have the
best security.
Don't fix what ain't broke comes from people that are not sure. Can't you
make things better???

In my area people buy 300 year old log cabins, fix them up, and live in
them. They still work.

Are you a rock??
Up dates plug security holes and in some cases improve performance but,
primarily security.

If you like holes in you OS OK but do not be so dense as to ask why up
dare your system.
