SP3 working perfectly (invisibly too)

SP3 is working on this machine perfectly. Also invisibly - no usage,
operational or functional changes that can be 'seen' or 'felt' on this unit.
No extra services added.

However, boot is noticeably a tad faster. So is website surfing - pages seem
to load faster. I don't know if these have anything to do with SP3 directly,
though.

I already posted in these columns that the install itself went off
flawlessly. Took less than 20 minutes and added less than 40 MB to the
overall system size on this rig which is always kept current with all MS and
other software updates.

Wishing Windows XP Pro a very long life - it is the best OS that came out of
the Microsoft mill so far, in my humble opinion.

I tried Vista. Nice, but seemed overladen. Mostly with eye-candy. XP is
definitely better.

Cheerio.

I agree with you 100% !!!

As a matter of fact SP3 has pretty much boosted all performance
slightly...but noticeably.

I don't really care how long MS supports XP. I will be using it for a *long*
time.

On my other machine I've still got Win2k!

I also installed sp3 without a glitch. It fixed a issue I experienced
using a wireless adapter. I'm going to eventually install it on
another PC. Since the other PC has only 256 meg RAM, I'm
wondering if anyone knows about or remembers for certain a
message that comes up when you start the installation. I'm
entirely unsure of this, but I seem to recall a message declaring
that a minimum of 384 meg RAM is required for the installation.
Maybe it just recommended that as a minimimum. Anyone
know or remember for sure?

Must agree, plus a bit more. My general system perfomance is noticeably faster (can't put a
number to it I don't benchmark these things), as with boot up, boot down, and like you web
browsing. Particularly clicking on a weblink from and email in Outlook activates IE almost
immediately, where before I could wait up to 20 seconds for this to happen. Installation was
no problem, cleaned up, defragged, ..., etc.

I will be using WinXP for a long while, got Vista Ultimate (retired it's usage before WinXP
in my case).

WinXP is one of the best User (as in not Server) OS to come out of MS IMO, I hold Win2K (and
WFW 3.11) in the same light.

Installed on 2 desktops and 1 laptop.
All 3 computers were in good shape and up to date.
The 2 desktops boot a little faster. No change on laptop ( old and slow)
Both desktop machines seem faster in opening programs etc.

Only problem was internet connectivity with the old laptop after SP3 was
installed.
Had to play around with TCP/IP config to get connected

I intend to keep my 3 licenses for as long as possible.

Happy XP user.

I have had nothing but great success on every machine I have installed
SP3. It was worth the wait. System is snappier overall and networking
is a bit better. A+ all around.
