I've been reading all these messages about SP2 causing massive
problems. I've had it installed for two weeks without any problems but
am starting to feel nervous. Is it a time bomb waiting to explode?

You should perhaps think about a few other items before
you worry about SP2. You have globally given quiet a
bit if useful information to unscrupulous people.

I have installed it and have had no problems. A firend installed it and has
massive problems - is there a different SP2 for Home users and professional
users as I think that may be his problem.

There is only one SP-2.
A major cause of problem is some type of compatibility issue, spyware,
virus etc.
Have him follow the Service Pack Installation Checklist to reduce the
chance of SP-2 issues:
