Has anyone received SP2 via Windows Update yet? I downloaded the network
verion but have not installed it yet, due to the fact that it's a larger
file than the "regular' SP2.....I have st up my computer as instructed at
the Update site, but so far, no sign of an update, automatic or otherwise.
What gives?
TIA,
Ed

Just install the file you have it will still just install only what is
"necessary" there will be no difference in the final result.

You can just use the Network install. The reason this is so big is because
it incorporates every single file that may or may not be required by your
machine (depending on what you have installed already). The Express
(Windows Update version) install first analyses what you have on your
machine and only downloads what it needs to install, so saving time because
of a smaller download.

That said, if you already have the Network install down, you can just use
that and save you time downloading the same thing twice.

I just installed the network version (266MB download) on my desktop and
laptop machines, and it worked just fine. Takes about 15 minutes. I
haven't noticed any ill effects, the network between the two machines still
works they way it did (no firewall problem). The only chances I made after
the install is to allow Outlook Express to display pictures right away, and
the change automatic updates to just notify me when they are available so I
can download them at my convenience. After the install I also relogged in
to Windows Update to allow it to install the new V5 version of WU.

Use the network version, it's complete and you already have it. It will
'update' system files that are already up-to-date, but that's not problem,
as it will just replace exact duplicates of those files.

Make sure you machine is virus free and spyware free first.

Ed;
There is no difference at all once installed between the Network
Installation and Automatic Update.

Once SP-2 starts coming through Automatic Update (AU), there will be a
limited number of computers a day.
You could possibly have several computers and all of them get SP-2 on
different days.
So patience is the word unless you want SP-2 sooner.

Yes it has.

It was released to manufacturing on August 6. The network version
(big, because it's a complete CD image, not tailored for your
particular computer) is available for download at

It's now supposed to be available for public download through
Windows Update starting on August 18.

It has been released, the full 270MB file has been out for over a week. If
you have broadband, you can download that version easily instead of waiting.
