SP2 seems slower than SP1

I've just upgraded from SP1 to SP2 and I've noticed my PC
now takes twice as long to boot up.

The hard drive is still working several minutes after
it's brought the desktop up and when I check Task Manager
the Windows logon .exe is still running (and quite a few
others).

Once it's booted I'm not having any performance probs....
just wanted to know if this is normal?

(My PC has 2.66 Pentium4 & 1.5gb RAM and I'm not running
the Windows Firewall or Anti-Virus as i have my own and
also a hardware firewall)

Probably because of the improved security settings.
Malware, spyware, adware, homepage hijackers use
executable code. SP2 has tighter controls, and therefore
takes longer to screen the .ini files. Also, use the
system configuration utility to uncheck all startup items
you don't want automatically loaded into memory. You
don't have to restart immediately, you can select to exit
without restart and have the changes take effect on the
next powerup. I currently have all startup items disabled
that are not part of the system services tab on the system
configuration, they hog the computer memory and resources,
thereby slowing the entire computer down--especially while
on line. You can access the system configuration by
pressing F1 then entering system configuration as the
subject, then click on "open system configuration
utility." Currently, I have not found a direct link to
the SCU anywhere within Windows XP other than the Help
function. Formerly known as msconfig.exe, run from the
command prompt.

Thanks for your help I'll try your suggestions.
