SP2 question

I have XP SP1. I've seen suggestions about waiting "a while"
before installing SP2, because some people have had problems
and because a number of apps have problems with it.

My question is: wait for what? Some kind of patch to go with
SP2? Wait for other apps to update to accommodate SP2? And
so on.

Note: I'm conscientious about security (use firewall,
antivirus, anti-trojan, anti-adware/spyware, keep stuff up
to date, etc), but don't have the attitude that that means
never to upgrade. I'm just wondering whether there's a good
reason to wait a month or so -- or whatever "a while" means.

I've scanned messages here since SP2 came out, but I'm still
unclear on the concept. My main concern is that I'm a
computer idiot, and so I'm leery of having to fix computer
things.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

The best reason to wait is so that you can take advantage
of the problems others have had. If you're confident that
you're keeping your computer secure, there's no hurry. On
the other hand, if you have a good backup and you've
checked for SP2 updates for your applications and drivers
and you've noted the general types of problems others are
having, there's probably no reason not to go ahead and
take the plunge.

Bingo. I just updated my Nero and Adobe Reader on a long quest to update
everything on my computer before I dump SP2 on here and I am going to wait
for the CD. I am also reading as much as I can about what to do before,
during and after installation. I'm probably being too cautious but I just
got XP Pro and I really love it and want to *use* it, not configure, update,
maintain and pull my hair out!

I have countless productivity programs (can't speak for games). SP2 hasn't
impacted any of them, one way or the other.

The information isn't useful, for a number of reasons. You
don't mention any of the programs being used; we have no
way of knowing what "countless" means (it could be 1000,
or it could be 6 if you can't count higher than 5) and
just because you don't have problems with SP2 and any given
application doesn't mean everyone will be as fortunate.
Application interactions may also play a role.
