SP2 Problems

I've had several computers running on a peer-to-peer network for several
years with no major problems. Recently installed SP2 on the two XP Home
machines and one XP Pro machine. Now the only machine they can all see is
another running Windows 2000. I have authorized print and file sharing on all
three; I have run the network setup wizard on all three; I have looked for
some mysterious setting that will allow them to comminicate and all I find is
to turn off the Windows Firewall.

There has to be another way, doesn't there?

OK, solved my own problem. Renamed the workgroup on all the machines,
rebooted and they now communicate fully. Minor Windows glitch... <g>

This might be the quick solution to this nagging problem that is also
solved by re-running the network wizard several times. Many have the
problem of not being authorized to view their own network that running
the wizard multiple times seems to fix - as though a setting is not
being properly registered.

Mike,

do you still remember the old and new workgroup names? I'd be
curious, would like to know whether it had something to do with
the name itself, casing, length, special characters (spaces).

Old workgroup name = WORKGROUP

New wg name = ISKANDER

I'm behind so many firewalls I usually keep things simple.

Mike,

hmm, both names are innocuous. So it must have been the process
or entering the workgroup name that set things straight.

This would most likely mean that you could now change the
workgroup name back to what it was, and it should still keep
working.
