SP2 printing to a 98 shared printer driving me nuts

It's slow! The print window is slow to appear. I see it referenced all
over the newsgroups with not much of a resolution. I've got it narrowed
down. If I install Zone Alarm and block outgoing traffic to port 445 it
solves the problem. This has something to do with changes in how SP2 makes
a request to a peer resource. Help!
 
I think I just resolved this by adding NetBEUI. Rather not do that across
my LAN. Any ideas??
