SP2 - Microsoft relly put a lot of efforts

Hi:

Knowing many people have problems, one way or the other, with SP2 including
myself. But I still think Microsoft put a lot of efforts on it including
distributing it to end-users.

Our company received the CD not too long ago, and I also received CD for my
own order plus I don't live in the states at this time. Since we use many
different languages, we also ordered CDs these few days when it became
available. All of which are free even for the international shipping.

Some critics may say Microsoft has made a lot of money from us and it's
something they can afford. But think on the positive side, it could choose
not to do so too or in some other ways.

The point is, although SP2 is not perfect in some cases (which in a way is
understandable), but the company still put a lot of efforts on it and I
personally appreciate it.

I guess it's nice to express appreciation, bit it's not exactly altruism.
SP2 mostly fixes defects that should not have been in XP in the first place.
The ongoing carelessness on security is a serious business liability for
Microsoft at this point. Prominent security experts have recommended
moving away from Internet Explorer and businesses are sick of the constant
patches, maintenance costs, and worries.

I mostly service Windows, but my most stable and secure client runs a Linux
server. We had one security related patch in the last 2 years. MS has to
do better and let's hope SP2 is just the start.

I would like to add that in most cases, the people who
have had issues with SP2 are either Dell customers, or
people who don't keep there systems clean of infections,
or at least clean their systems up before downloading the
SP2. By following suggested procedures set forth by
Microsoft, minimal errors will occur.
Thanks!

Many Dell customers have not problems at all. The ones doing all the
complaining are Dell customers with Prescott CPU's, which requires a BIOS
upgrade, provided by Dell, but created by INTEL to fully utilized the
Prescott capabilities that were integrated into XP SP2.

Hi:

I am also a Dell customer using I8600 and I8000 although our company
notebooks are mostly IBM, for which we hold the upgrade process until all
testing have been completed.

So for my own Dell notebooks, I had no problem at all which I was very
surprised.

I do agree that MS should have done even more on security and salability and
many other things, but I won't blame it for "all" problems that it is having
right now.

There are so many people out there that are targeting the company (and that
person, you know who) to do everything to destroy its products.

If any company has achieved the same status as today's MS, including
companies offered Linux and related products, we will not surprised to see
the same dilemma to happen again.

My wishful thinking is that Internet security should be treated as part of
global security network similar to against terrorisms, instead of the
responsibilities of one or a few companies.

Chris;
"...have had issues with SP2 are either Dell customers"
Please cite a source that suggests Dell are more likely to have issues
than other brands.

Jupiter Jones
I handle a support center supporting MS software, I feild
approximately 60 customers per day, on average. After the
release of SP2 there have been an alarming amount of Dell
customer suffering with ill effects from SP2. Now Dell
may have market share, and maybe the % of customers are
only a reflection of the number of units that Dell has
sold in comparison to other brands. However be that as it
may, a large % of callers are Dell customers. I wouldn't
hesitate to say that approximately 50% of the calls are
Dell customers.

Don't confuse Jupiter with FACTS he cannot get his head out of the sand!

Testy;
There were no facts presented.
Just a small observation and opinion.
Unlike you I do not consider opinion as fact.
If you have something of value to say do so.
So far your contribution is nothing but insults.
Your constant insults are a reflection of your own faults and do not
indicate anything about anyone but you.

Clearly you have an ego problem and are attempting to boost it.
FAILED...Again.

What you say does not prove the statement "I would like to add that in
most cases, the people who
have had issues with SP2 are either Dell customers, or people who
don't keep there systems clean of infections,
or at least clean their systems up before downloading the SP2."

It may be your observation, but there is much more out there.

The second part about keeping the computer clean is valid but to what
degree that causes issues is difficult to say.

Lastly I have seen a number of issues reported as SP-2 issues that had
absolutely nothing to do with SP-2 in any way.
And yet those are among those counted as SP-2 issues by many.

No ego problems here. But you simply dismiss any FACTS that conflict with
your narrow worldview!

Hi

As far as I know, Dell have not released any computer models with
Prescott CPU's, they have used Northwood. If they have started to
use Prescott , that would be very recently, and then it would have
been with a Prescott that had a CPU/Microcode revision number that
was high enough so this would not be a problem anyway.

The only Dell/SP2 issue I know about is for Dell Inspiron 1150 and
2650 (they have Northwood CPU's) where you might get a slow running
system after installing SP2. Take a look at this thread for more
on this:

No facts were presented so there were none to dismiss.
What facts were presented about Dell?
An observation of one person with numbers so small they are
statistically irrelevant do not make facts.
It seems that issues with any software including SP-2 cross all makes
of computers.
Perhaps for you, opinions are facts.
Otherwise post a source of facts that prove Dell has more issues with
SP-2 than other computer brands.

That would be believable if you did not feel the need to insult people
to prove your point.
Instead you can not seem to express yourself without insults.
And often insults is all you have to say demonstrating you have
nothing of value to contribute.
Go ahead...prove me wrong.

No the problems with SP2 apply to ALL computers and is not necessarily
related to "user error" as you presume so many times! I just spent the last
three days rebuilding a network for one of my clients who installed SP2 so I
guess I am grateful I was able to bill over $1000 for this.

You just generally dismiss any facts presented to you. Have a nice day.

Testy

Your statement is clearly false.
If "problems with SP2 apply to ALL computers" then I would have some
of these problems.
I do not, others also do not.
As long as you follow your incorrect assumption, your datsa will also
be wrong.

Still waiting for the facts on Dell.
Please post them.
So far you have given nothing to dismiss as usual.

You are a very confused person I never said anything about Dell and in fact
have very little experience with them. Any effort to provide you with facts
would be useless anyway your brain only seems to function one way.

Testy

Insults again, can you do anything else?
"I never said anything about Dell"
That is what this is all about.
Perhaps you should read before you post next time.
If you ever have a point, you clearly can not make it without insults.
Good bye testy.
Don't bother responding...unless your ego demands the last word.
We shall see...
