(sp2) internet works, then doenst

my work computer(xp pro sp2) is hooked up to a router. 5
other computers (2000pro) are hooked up to the same
router. before sp2 i could get on the internet. now, i
can use the internet for the first 30 seconds of logging
in and then the ie cant find the server. turning off the
computer and starting up again solves the problem for 30
seconds, then i have no internet again. is there a check
box or something that says "dont disconect from interent
at random" or "stay on the internet for more that 30
seconds"? i'm thinking of just formating the hard drive
and installing xp pro sp1 and thats it. i'm sure all the
other sp2 problems will come my way soon, so should i just
wait until the sp2 problems are cleared up before i
install it again?

I had a similar problem. I downloaded SP2 from the
Windows Update site, and the next thing I knew I couldn't
see the my router at all. When I removed SP2, everything
went back to normal. I suspect that there may be a
difference if you use the administrator's version of SP2
which asks if you connect directly to the Internet or if
you connect through a LAN switch and router.

I would be interested in hearing how you got your version
of SP2 (ie. from Technet or from windowsupdate).

i got sp2 from windowsupdate. i've tried all the
sugguestions(sp) on this group, but nothing works...
if no one else has any insight or a fix, i'm just going to
uninstall sp2 or format everything and wait until a fix
comes out.
