SP2 Horror Story

The update to Bluetooth in SP2 fixes it: now it does not work.
Networking has been improved as well: I have been staring at the spinning
circle for more than 5 minutes while trying to change sharing permissions on
a folder. Actually I am not changing sharing, because according to Vista the
file is already shared with everyone. The problem is that no one else on the
network can see the file.
Microsoft has also addressed shutdown: now my laptop hangs and will not shut
down unless I manually kill the power.
I have migrated one of my main machines to Windows 7 already: Win7 appears
to be the real deal. How, after all these years, can Microsoft still turn
the offal that is Vista into an ever worse compilation of woe and misery?
I sure hope the uninstall works: if I have to reformat and reinstall I am
moving to the Win 7 RC.

I have had no problems with Vista since Service Pack 1, and I have had
no issues at all with Service Pack 2. Seems you got unlucky.

Feel better now. As far as I know Vista SP2 installed smoothly for most. You are
only the 2nd person in all of the Vista newsgroups that is complaining. Maybe take a
long hard look at your system for malware or running a AV,Security program while you
were downloading and installing Vista SP2

I found downloading standalone SP2 and installing is convenient for a smooth
installation rather than WU, disabling third party Anti Virus programs also a
helpful suggestion.

I also have shutdown problems after installing the SP2 update on my
Vista x64 Ultimate system. Normally shutdown takes less than 1 minute.
Twice I have waited over 15 minutes before killing the power. I
searched through the event logs and found nothing. What's odd is that
after rebooting, I do NOT get the usual windows boot option screen
with the message about previous shutdown failed etc etc. Its as if the
shutdown process completed but forget to send the power off
command ?!?!

I have found the source of my Vista SP2 shutdown problem. I was using
an old version of RamDiskVe (1.100.100RC2). After upgrading to the
latest version (3.5.107) from www.dataram.com, I no longer have
shutdown issues with Vista SP2
