SP2 and staggered shutdown with Firewire

Not major but ... Recently added SP2 and now whenever my firewire external
hard drive is attached, on XP shut down, the HDD, monitor and external drive
do not shut down together.
The HDD spins down and off, but there is a period of many seconds before the
monitor and extn drive turn off along with remaining PC case fans.
If the external drive is disconnected or accessed with UBB, no problem. I
prefer Firewire as it seems to have faster access for video editing.

Has anyone else had this happen?
