Recently I have made clean installation of Windows XP and
SP2. My system is: MOBO ASUS K8N-E DeLuxe, AMD Athlon 64
proc, NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller.
Everything is working OK only when I am trying to connect
to internet, that is not possible. I am using ADSL conn.
which is working perfectly with Realtec Eth card. I have
read a lot of forums, but without succsess.

I know it is SP2, but I do not want to remove it from my
comp. Anybody help?

I have the exact same problem...

To enable internet access, i had to add allow rules for EtherType
0x8863 (PPPoE Setup) and 0x8864 (PPPoE) in NVidia Management web based
tool

The question is, by allowing the PPPoE protocol on the firewall, is
the firewall still act as a firewall, or is it not blocking anything
anymore ???!

I had also the problem with SP1... i'm very surprised that there is so
few info on the net about it...

my config is :

Asus K8N-E
Atlon 64 3000
Windows XP SP2
....

Cedric,

I don't know the NVidia Management and cannot help you with
that.

Generally, if you create or enable an exception for a program,
then that allows that program and only that program to open a
network listening port. It does not open anything else, so you
are still safe, as long as that program doesn't abuse its rights
or has security holes.

For more details on the Windows XP Service Pack 2 firewall
