SP2 and NAV 2003

I note that NAV 2003 is listed as an application which may behave differently
under SP2, but why does the Security Centre indicate "Check Status" for a
fully updated NAV? Can I do anything about it?

No, Norton needs to make an update available.
They have done it for 2004, but not 2002, & 2003.
2002 & 2003 will have the updates at some point.
2001 and earlier versions will not be supported by this feature.

In any event Norton AV is fully functional and works properly.
