I have tried to install some anatomy software on my laptop but the Windows
file protection now tells me that it has replaced some files with ones that
are not a recognised version. In order too maintain stability it needs to
replace the files with the origibnl version and then asks me for the SP3 CD.
Unfortunately the SP3 is already installed (it came installed) and I don't
have the CD. I have found the SP3 download, but I can't hook up to the
internet with the laptop. Although I can download the SP onmy main PC, I
can't install.
Is it possible to download and save SP3 or 4 or do I have to buy the CD?
OR should I not worry about having new versions of the files.

Thanks
Steve

If you're not having any problems or getting error messages, you may want to
leave well enough alone.

If need be, you may be better off by updating the OS to the latest service pack
which is SP4. Maybe these are the replacement file versions being cited. You can
download SP4 or buy the CD from Microsoft. If you download it, you'll have to
burn it to a CD-R/RW disc for installation on your laptop.

You should be concerned about the absence of the OS CD. Someday you're going to
need this to repair or reinstall the OS.

Thanks Eric. The problem is that I can't find a way to download the SP4
without installing it on the computer that downloads it. From the microsoft
website, you download a 640kb .exe file that starts the installation, but
when you run the .exe file, it starts to download the actual installation but
it will only install - not save. Hope that makes sense
Do you know a way you can save rather than install.

Thanks
Steve

Thanks again Eric. I have done so. I actually contacted the manufacturers
of the software and they told me that their software had only one modified
one file and so i need not have worried. At least I have got SP4 now,
although i am seriously thinking of wiping clean and installing XP!
Many thanks for your help
Steve
