Problem installing SP 4 for 2000pro

I constantly get "windows file protection" pop up asking for my
CD(2000pro sp3) when I insert it it only brings up the normal Cd
install menu, so I reinstalled windows hopeing to resole this now it
occurs less often but still pops up so I ran windows update-- no
change, so I downloaded the SP 4 file(SP4Express_EN.exe) when it was
done I ran the app and it started "updating system" got about half
done according to the blue bar in the app window then stoped going I
left it alone for about 24hrs stil no change so I figured I close it
and restart it when I try to open the SP4Exxpress_EN.exe it tells me
"another installation is already in progress. Complete that install
before proceeding with this install. " I don't know what to do

I mainly just want the os to work without asking for the cd all the
time as I would prefer NOT to install a second ROM drive just to keep
my WIN 2000 CD in

MY SYSTEM: =
Athlon XP2400+
512 RAM geil w/ heatsink
80 G seagate HD
Asus MB , floppy, CD-RW

Please Help if you can,
-Eric

It sounds as if you may have been infected with a virus of spyware
originally.

As you have a failed reinstall it's probably easier to start again from
scratch and completely wipe the hard drive when it asks if you want to
delete the current partition. Then create a new partition afterwards,
once installed install some good antivirus and spyware packages as soon
as possible.

Preferably apply all AV/Spyware and service packs from CD's not from the
web as merely connecting to the internet with insufficient protection
can get your machine infected.
