SP 2 Crashed my computor

Brandi

I am in NO way a computer person so here goes. The
little "new updates for your computer" button popped up 2
nights ago, so being the idiot i am, I ran 'em. It said
to reboot for changes to take effect so I did. Now it just
keeps restarting over and over. I get my Gateway screen,
then the Windows XP screen then it restarts and does it
all over again. I can't even get to a login screen to
uninstall or anything else. Just restarts over and over
and over..... HELP!!! Is my puter a total loss?!?!

Thanks

Can you get into safe mode? Turn computer on and tap F8. If you
can get in, uninstall SP2.

CompUSA, Ebay sell Windows.

You might be able to get one from Microsoft if the original XP disk was
a Full Retail Install or upgrade. And you have the original Key.

If your copy is an OEM version, you'll have to talk to your Computer
Manufacturer.

You can set your BIOS so that the CD is before the Hard Drive
in the Boot Order. Your manufacturer could tell you how to do this.
Or maybe your computer documentation.

Did you read the site about the Prescott Processor?

I second that thought. The exact same thing happened to me on microsoft xp.
The two screens kept scrolling and I couldn't log on. I reformatted by
booting from the cd. I hope you had backup. I'm feel'in for you. When it
first happened to me an expert told me my hard drive was bad. Not so!!!
Formatting saved me $2oo.oo.

Hi Brandi, that happened to me and I went to safe mode
and change my windows restore point to an earlier date
hope this helps.
