SP-2 Boot Problems

This is driving me to drinking!
My computer is a P-4 -state of the art machine that is
(was) running the best it has ever. All drivers are
current (I believe) and all XP updates in place.
I installed SP-2 and it appeared, was a successful
installation.
When the machine attempted to boot, the bios posted
successfully, the Win-XP Home addition appeared for
perhaps seven seconds and then went away. At this point
the machine attempts to boot again and .... on and on it
goes in an endless loop.
My solution was to boot in 'safe mode' (which was
successful) and than remove SP-2. My machine now works
great.
Appreciate it if anyone can shine some light on whats
going on. I've installed SP-2 on two other machines
without a problem.

Thanks in advance!

I've got a P-4 Toshiba that's stuck in the same loop
you're describing, but I can't even start Windows XP in
safe mode! Judging by the number of postings under
the "Performance and Maintenance" section, I would say
Microsoft has a major problem on their hands.

Uninstall via bootdisk, if you call MSFT's toll free SP2
help line 888-SP2-HELP and tell them you need help
uninstalling SP2 via bootdisk, they can walk you through
the entire thing! Just did it last night, but lost over
20GB of personal files...hope you have a backup!

I have run into the same problem with my HP XP-Home Edition PC... I hear
alot of people with "scanners" are running into this problem. I also
updated my HP XP-Media Center Edition Laptop without any known problems!!
Go figure... (Media Center uses XP-Professional, and I hear Professional has
cured alot of problems for Home Edition users??)

I have same issues, AND I am using XP professional
already. I am UNABLE to get in safe mode at all. If I
go to do not reboot on system failure I get the fatal
blue screen which says, WINSRV not found. ANYBODY out
there with ideas.
