Source of Low cost Compact flash

Hey guys,

After fighting a losing battle to turn my Ultra II compact flash into
a fixed device for the last week, I think I am about ready to admit
defeat and just buy the correct type of compact flash.

What I was wondering is, whats a good source of low cost compact
flash, thats set as a fixed device (or the manufactures has an easy
tool to set it as a fixed device).

Cost is the primary factor in this application since, we are going on
the low cost, easy to swap out a whole new unit theory, and we are
going to be making allot of these once we get past the prototype
phase.

Thanks for you help.

If you are "going to making a lot of them" then you should approach the
manufactures directly to negotiate the volume pricing. I have never had an
issue getting a couple of complimentary samples to evaluate first. Companies
like Simpletec, Transcend & Pretec all come to mind.

Point taken, I should probably have specified what I mean by allot of
them, and put it into perspective. We plan to have about 100 units in
the field, and about 50 in storage in case of problems, we may adjust
the amount we have in storage based on the performance of the units in
the field.

But for now we will be getting about 150 CF cards.

Go for Simpletec... They have fixed disk out of the box and very quick MWDMA
cards if you get the L2 controller. (Denoted by L2 in the part number, i.e.
SLCF128L2U-F is 128MB Fixed disk.)

Stuart
