When selecting view on the browser menu and clicking on

Not really a win2k issue. But i can give you some answers anyway.

I'm assuming you have MS internet explorer. If this not the case, say so.

MSIE relies on an external program (by default: notepad) to display the
source code of a webpage.

Is notepad.exe present on your computer?
 
In IE - Tools, Internet Options, Programs, set HTML editor to Notepad.
