Sound Skips HELP

I dont know why or how long now, but my sound skips on my HP Compaq Laptop
Win XP.

So we cant play a movie, listen to music... it jumps/skips and it is
horrible. I dont even know where to begin, please help.

STILL NEED HELP

Using my laptop, when I sign on too AOL, and then play the radio it doesnt
skip.

When I boot up or shut down the sound is all skip.jumpy. When I try and
watch a movie I created that is saved on my harddrive, it skips, jumps. What
do I do about the sound problem?
